Robin has qualifications and experience in both employment law and employee relations as a solicitor (30+ years qualified) and an employee relations manager.
Admitted as a solicitor in 1973, he was immediately appointed as Head of Employment Law for Shell-Mex and BP Ltd and handled some of the first UK unfair dismissal cases. In particular, he advised line managers on the employment law implications of re-organisations/re-structures and has vast experience of change management.
After four years, Robin became a Senior Employee Relations Manager within the Shell Group, responsible for all aspects of employee relations as well as formulating and implementing personnel policies and job evaluation. For ten of his eleven years in this role he acted as the chief negotiator in national and local pay negotiations with trade unions in both the UK and Malaysia.
In 1989 he gained a Masters Degree (with Merit) in Labour Law and immediately set up a sole practice in London specialising in employment law. He quickly built up a geographically wide and diverse client base covering a broad spectrum of industries including hotel and catering, leisure, food manufacturing, construction and retail.
In addition to giving advice on all aspects of employment law he regularly acts as an advocate at Employment Tribunals throughout the UK and to date has represented clients at 30 different Tribunal locations. He has also attended the Employment Appeal Tribunal on many occasions either as an advocate or instructing solicitor, most notably in the leading Sex Discrimination case of Driskel v Peninsula Business Services Ltd.
Robin is approachable, down to earth and possesses a good sense of humour. He is now the Senior Solicitor of Astons Solicitors and when not working he likes to travel. He has so far visited over 110 countries and has many more trips planned for the future.
